Job Description

Title: Bilingual/CASAC Substance Abuse Counselor (evening)

About the Organization:
Greenhope was established in 1975 in a convent that was transformed into a comprehensive residential treatment program for formerly incarcerated women. Over the years, it has developed formal relationships with the criminal justice system and has expanded its work to include services for women on parole and those referred by the courts as an alternative to incarceration (ATI).

Located in East Harlem, Greenhope’s commitment to providing quality services to predominantly poor African American and Latina ex-offenders has made it a leader in working with women to address the problems that lead to a life of drugs and crime. It is one of the few woman-centered facilities operating in New York State, which serves both parolees and ATI clients

Department: Ambulatory Component (Aftercare/Day Treatment)

Reports to:Ambulatory Director

Summary: Functions as an interdisciplinary team member and provides case management and counseling services to women (ex) offenders

Requirements: Bachelors Degree in human services or related field and 1 year experience or Associate degree and 3 years experience providing case management and counseling services to women ex-offenders presenting with chemical dependence/abuse issues. Bilingual (Spanish/English) and CASAC a plus.

Duties:
Works closely with interdisciplinary team members to:

  • Coordinate services with other department units

  • Set treatment plans

  • Present members overall treatment progress and/or lack of in case review/conference meetings.

  • Provide weekly individual and group counseling sessions.

  • Conduct intake assessment for client admission.

  • Provide referral and follow up services

  • Maintain documentation of client case record according to state contracts and OASAS guidelines.

  • Keep abreast of developments in the field of chemical dependence/abuse, criminal justice system, welfare reform laws, and women issues via meetings, training and conferences.

  • Work evening hours from 2 pm – 10 pm or from 3 pm – 10 pm

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
