Job Description

Title: Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor

General
The Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is part of the Vocational Services management team. He or she assists the Director of Vocational Services in program planning, development and oversight. The Senior Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor also provides direct services to clients. He or she conducts vocational assessment and evaluation of clients’ educational, vocational interests and abilities, personal traits and physical capacities. The Senior Vocational Counselor functions as an interdisciplinary team member and writes treatment plans, monitors and documents clients’ progress, and participates in case reviews and conferences.

Department: Vocational Rehabilitation and Education Department

Supervised by: Director of Vocational Services

Specific: A. Provide leadership to Vocational Services Team

  1. Represents the Director of Vocational Services at designated meetings, conferences and events when necessary.
  2. Directly supervises the Vocational Intern.
  3. Facilitates weekly vocational team meetings.
  4. Facilitates monthly vocational group supervision sessions.
  5. Makes vocational caseload assignments to the vocational counseling staff.
  6. Provides the Director of Vocational Services with activity reports as required.

B. Assess and evaluate clients

  1. Perform initial intake interview of clients to obtain vocational, education, training, interests and abilities.
  2. Maintains a caseload of 15- 20 clients.
  3. Provide continuous individual and group counseling.
  4. Assist client in developing and implementing a comprehensive treatment plan that will result in client entering in skills training, increasing education and securing employment.
  5. Administer vocational interest assessments and educational testing to define career objectives and goals.

C. Facilitate vocational workshops to assist clients in developing and enhancing workplace skills

  1. Develop group curricula (Career Exploration, Job Readiness)
  2. Conduct workshops in employability and job preparation skills (Ex: Career Exploration, Job Readiness, etc.)
  3. Offer post- employment counseling to clients in an individual or group setting.
  4. Work with individuals to develop job search strategies and assist clients in locating and applying for jobs.
  5. Assist with coordinating and arranging outings and yearly vocational events (Annual Career Fair, Career Days)
  6. Visit and become acquainted with external training programs that clients are attending and determine if service being provided is addressing client needs.
  7. Develop community contacts for education, training and employment.

D. Maintain concise and accurate records of vocational activities and progress

  1. Review and update client treatment plans
  2. Prepare bi-weekly progress notes of vocational rehabilitation status on all clients in caseload
  3. Maintain record of client community activities
  4. Maintain monthly record of all client referrals and placements in the areas of training, education and employment.

E. Participate in interdisciplinary team case reviews/ conferences/meetings

  1. Attend case review/ conference and other team meetings for case development and progress.
  2. Facilitates the vocational team meeting.
  3. Gather information from other units to verify client status (i.e. medical, legal, benefits, etc).
  4. Attend staff development training on-site and within the community.
  5. Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:
Master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation, Counseling or Guidance, or Mental Health counseling; Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) required; and at least three years of experience in the vocational rehabilitation counseling of substance abusers or clients from other disadvantaged populations.
